Columbia Pictures has made a deal to develop The Pioneer Woman, a romantic comedy that’s being shaped as a potential star vehicle for Reese Witherspoon. The studio has acquired rights to thepioneerwoman.com, a blog by Ree Drummond that details how a detour on a trip from L.A. to Chicago led her to Oklahoma. There, she met the cowboy of her dreams and transformed from spoiled city girl to domestic ranch wife.

Laura Ziskin and Pam Williams will produce. Drummond wrote a bestselling cookbook, and has turned her homespun tales into Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, a book that will be published by William Morrow next Valentine’s Day.

Drummond has a large following for a blog she writes from the cattle ranch that covers everything from cooking to tips on home schooling. The film will explore the fantasy of trading big city living for a wholesome simpler life. Rights to the book are part of the deal brokered by UTA and LJK Literary Management.

Apparently The Hangover star Bradley Cooper has dropped out from his project with director McG for the upcoming movie “This is War” due to conflicts with The Hangover 2’s shooting. Ryan Reynolds is reportedly due to replace him.

“EW is reporting that rising star Bradley Cooper has traded in his role in an upcoming McG-directed spy comedy called This Is War for The Hangover 2. War is about two best friends spies whose relationship falls apart when they both fall for the same woman (Reese Witherspoon).

Twentieth Century Fox confirms Cooper’s departure from This Is War, citing scheduling conflicts with The Hangover 2 as the reason.(…) This Is War is apparently considered a high priority for Fox (although the 12 years in gestation doesn’t suggest that…) but it’s not clear what direction Fox is heading in now, including who they will get to replace Cooper. The Proposal’s Ryan Reynolds will probably be getting a call pretty soon.”

While Sony and Lionsgate fight a bidding war for the rights to the “Terminator” franchise, “Terminator Salvation” director McG is looking for his next movie in lieu of not going on to helm the series’ fifth installment. Though he’s still linked to the Broadway musical adaptation “Spring Awakening,” according to Variety he has also been in talks to helm a “priority project” for Fox titled “This Means War.”

The comedy already has two stars in place, Bradley Cooper and Reese Witherspoon. It is expected to begin shooting this spring, which would make it the director’s next movie, rather than the musical.
The screenplay for “This Means War” has reportedly been rewritten so many times that it’s difficult to say who the author is anymore, but the most recent draft is by “Role Models” scribe Timothy Dowling (who interestingly enough acted in a “Terminator” movie — the third one).

The plot sounds very “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” yet in “This Means War” the spies who turn on each other are best friends rather than husband and wife. It’s that classic story of a woman coming between two guys and ruining their friendship. Or, can I please, please presume that Witherspoon is one of the friends, not the object of affection for two men?

That would be a bold twist that Fox likely wouldn’t explore. Too “Being John Malkovich,” not enough “There’s Something About Mary” or “Feeling Minnesota” (all these films star Cameron Diaz, coincidentally). Of course, the Hollywood ending would probably cop out and suppress the lesbianism aspect by having Cooper and Witherspoon’s spy buddies make up, make out and fall in love with each other. Probably because that dream woman (cast Diaz!) turns out to be a bad guy or something.

Whatever the case, if McG is on board, I’m still looking forward to this. I’m one of the few people not embarrassed to say I like both “Charlie’s Angels” movies and really enjoyed the director’s “Terminator” sequel and ideas for continuing the series. I could definitely see him doing something fun along the lines of the “Charlie’s” movies combined with “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”

I also urge all McG haters out there to watch the director in the FunnyOrDie video where he’s directing Rachel Bilson in a sex scene for a fake film called “Hearts of Palm.” Hilarious and disturbing.

Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon are still very much a couple, their representatives have confirmed.

The statement comes in the wake of reports to the contrary that emerged over the weekend.

A source close to the Oscar-winning actress told People that Reese and Jake had split, although no further details were given.

“It’s not true,” said reps Nanci Ryder – who works for Reese – and Carrie Byalick. “They are still together.”

The couple, who are known for keeping their private life out of the public eye, were first romantically linked after starring in the 2007 film Rendition.

Speaking about her boyfriend last year, the mum-of-two said: “He’s very supportive. Suffice to say I’m very happy in life and I’m very lucky to have a lot of really supportive people around me who care very much for me….”

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have called it quits, a source confirms to JustJared.com.

Reese, 33, and Jake, 28, have been a couple since starring together in the 2007 drama thriller Rendition.

Reese was singing the praises of Jake as late as last month in the November issue of InStyle: “We spend the weekends outside L.A, in Ojai, where I have a farmhouse. We have chickens and we grow cucumbers and tomatoes. I love it. It reminds me of where I grew up in Tennessee.”
